I'm at this gate several times a week. I know which lane backs up on a Saturday morning, and I have watched more than one person drive all the way out to Lincoln with a load they were not allowed to leave. So here is the whole thing written down in one place.
I'm Chris. My sons and I run Kale's Junk & Trash Hauling out of Roseville, and the landfill is basically our second office. Every price I quote has a gate fee buried inside it, so I have no reason to be cagey about what the same trip would cost you. Sometimes that number is a lot smaller than mine.
Where It Is and When It Is Open
First thing to clear up: Roseville does not have its own dump. What serves this side of the county is the Western Placer Waste Management Authority Materials Recovery Facility and landfill, at 3195 Athens Avenue, Lincoln, CA 95648. From most of Roseville it is about a fifteen minute drive north.
The other address people find online is 3013 Fiddyment Road in Roseville. That is the WPWMA office, not the scale house. Do not take a loaded trailer there. Loads go to Athens Avenue in Lincoln. To ask about a specific material first, call (916) 543-3960. That call is cheaper than the drive.

2025-26 Gate Fees
This is the posted schedule. Most customers, residential and commercial, including trailers that do not dump, are charged by the cubic yard at the public scale house; the per-ton rates apply to loads that get weighed, and a few items are priced each.
Those rates took effect July 1, 2025, and the WPWMA can change them, so check the posted schedule before you count on a number. A loose pickup bed of household junk works out to roughly two cubic yards, which puts a normal truckload of general refuse near $50 at the scale.
Sorting pays. Green waste is $20.00 a cubic yard against $25.25 for general refuse, and clean wood waste is $17.50. Toss branches in with the couch and the whole load gets charged as general refuse. Ten minutes in the driveway is worth real money.
What Is Free for Residents
If your whole load is made of the things below, you drive out to Lincoln and drive home paying nothing.
- Household hazardous waste: free for residents, every day, at its own drop-off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- E-waste: free for residents, every day.
- Separated recyclables: free for residents, every day. Separated is the word that matters. Mixed into the trash it is trash, and it gets charged like trash.
- Mattresses and box springs: free, up to four units per household per visit, through the statewide Bye Bye Mattress program (checked September 2026).
On the east side of the county, Lincoln is not your only option. Recology Auburn Placer at 12305 Shale Ridge Road in Auburn takes mattresses free as well, daily from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., four per household, for Placer County residents. What They Will Not Take, and What We Will Not Either
Household hazardous waste is the big one, and the detail that matters is that it cannot ride across the disposal scale mixed into a load of junk. It has its own drop-off, its own daily 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours, and it costs residents nothing. Pull it out of the pile before you load.
Past that, I am not going to publish my own list of what the facility will and will not accept, because those lists change and being wrong about one costs you a wasted morning. The facilities page carries the current rules, and (916) 543-3960 gets you a person who can answer.
Same rule on our side. We are a truck, a trailer and a couple of strong backs, not a hazardous materials outfit, so there are things we turn down and point you to the county for instead, or to a specialist when the county cannot take it either. The short list is on our what we don't haul page.
Green waste is its own category, not a refusal. It has a cheaper gate rate, so we keep it separate and price it separately, which is why yard waste hauling is quoted on its own.
Self-Haul vs Hiring It Out: The Honest Math
Start with the case where you should not call me. You have a pickup and a garage corner's worth of junk. Call it two cubic yards, about what fits loose in a truck bed. At $25.25 a cubic yard that is roughly $50 at the gate, plus an hour and a half of round trip and fuel. The real cost is the handling, because every piece gets touched twice, once into the truck and once out of it.
Our minimum load is $150. On that job you are paying me about a hundred dollars to skip the lifting and keep your afternoon. Some people want that trade and some do not. If you own the truck and the load is light, drive it out yourself.
Now scale it up. A half trailer of mixed junk, which is what a garage or a rental turnover usually turns into, is rarely just one truckload. That means repeat gate fees, repeat round trips, and a whole day of loading and unloading. Our half trailer is $550 to $590 and it happens in one visit. A full trailer is $995. Somewhere in that range the math flips, sooner than most people expect once they count their own hours.
Concrete is a different animal. The county's yard-versus-ton split is spelled out on the WPWMA facilities page (checked September 2026), and inert material carries its own rate either way, $65.50. The weight matters on our side: a yard of concrete can weigh far more than a yard of furniture. We quote concrete, dirt, sod and sand by weight, so the number I give you holds. The Short Version
One or two light items and a truck in the driveway: go to Lincoln. Mattresses, e-waste and household hazardous waste go to Lincoln free. A garage, an estate, a construction pile or anything heavy: get a number from me and compare it against your Saturday.
