Roseville has no curbside bulky pickup. Your options: a free spring clean-up event, a city dumpster rental, a self-haul to Lincoln, or a hauler. For one item, the self-haul is the cheapest year-round option if you own a truck; in April and May the free clean-up event beats it. For a whole garage, a hauler wins.
Every week somebody calls me with the same question. The couch is out on the driveway, the neighbors have started looking at it, and they want to know what day the city comes to get it. The answer nobody wants to hear is that the city does not come to get it. Not on a Tuesday, not for a fee.
I'm Chris. My sons and I run Kale's Junk & Trash Hauling out of Roseville, and we have been at this long enough to know that a good share of the people who call us should not pay us. So here is the whole picture. City programs, then the county dump, then what we charge.
What the City of Roseville Actually Offers
Roseville collects what fits inside your carts. That is the whole curbside program. There is no scheduled bulky item pickup for residents and no call-in service for a mattress or a water heater. The city's trash and recycling page lays out what it runs instead (checked September 2026). Three programs are worth knowing about:
- Spring Neighborhood Clean-Up events: Free, Roseville residents only, run with RCONA on four Saturdays each spring from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The 2026 dates were April 11 and April 25 at Bridgeway Church, 8150 Industrial Ave, then May 9 at St. John's Church, 2351 Pleasant Grove Blvd, and May 30 at Saugstad Park, 100 Buljan Dr. They take furniture, appliances and bulky household waste, but an unacceptable items list applies, so read it first. - 6-yard dumpster rental: The city will drop a 6-yard dumpster at your house for light yard clean-up and household refuse only. No dirt, rock, concrete, sod or heavy construction debris. Waste Services suggests about two weeks' notice at (916) 774-5780. A fee applies and it is set by municipal code, so call for the current rate.
- Free household hazardous waste doorstep pickup: Residential, and hazardous waste only. Paint, solvents, pool chemicals, old batteries. It is a genuinely good program, and it will not take your dresser. The city explains how to book it on the free doorstep pick-up page (checked September 2026).
Notice what is missing. Two of those three are seasonal or narrow, and the dumpster only helps if you can fill it yourself. If it is September and there is a broken treadmill in your garage, you have two real choices. Haul it, or have it hauled.
Taking It to the Dump Yourself
The facility that serves this side of Placer County is the Western Placer Waste Management Authority site at 3195 Athens Ave in Lincoln. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gate rates come off the WPWMA facilities page (checked September 2026), and these are the ones that matter for a household cleanout.
Those rates took effect July 1, 2025. A loose pickup bed of household junk runs somewhere around two cubic yards, so a trip with a couch and a few boxes lands near $50 at the scale. That is cheap. I am not going to tell you otherwise. What it does not include is the truck, the fuel out to Lincoln and back, and the second person it takes to get a sleeper sofa over a tailgate.
When Hiring a Hauler Is the Cheaper Move
I will be straight with you. If you own a pickup, you have a friend with a good back, and it is one couch, drive it to Lincoln. You will spend about $50 in fees and part of a Saturday, and you will come out ahead of my price. Our single item minimum is $150, and that covers my sons and me walking it out of your house, the drive, and the fee at the gate. You are paying for the part that hurts your back.
The math flips as soon as the pile gets bigger. A packed two-car garage is not one truckload, it is closer to three, and three runs to Lincoln is a full weekend of loading, driving and unloading. A full trailer with us is $995 and it happens in one afternoon while you do something else. Half a trailer, which is what most garage cleanouts turn out to be, runs $550 to $590.
HOA Neighborhoods: Nothing Sits at the Curb
A lot of the west side of town is HOA country. Fiddyment Farm, WestPark, Stanford Ranch, the newer tracts out along Blue Oaks. In those neighborhoods a couch on the driveway is not a plan, it is a courtesy notice in your mailbox by the end of the week.
That is a big part of why we load from inside the garage. Nothing sits out front waiting for us, nothing gets dragged to the curb the night before, and we sweep up before we leave. If you want the local details, they are on our junk removal in Roseville page.
What We Take and What We Do Not
We take furniture, appliances, mattresses, yard debris, garage clutter, hot tubs, construction debris and most of what a house produces when somebody moves out. Donation and recycling come first. Anything with life left in it goes to a local charity, metal and electronics go to recyclers, and that keeps our dump fees down, which keeps your price down.
There is a short list we cannot touch, and it is mostly hazardous material. That is the one place the city beats us outright, because their free doorstep pickup handles the paints and chemicals and we cannot. The Short Version
If it is April or May, you live in Roseville, and you have one item plus a vehicle big enough to move it, go to the clean-up event. It is free and it is the right answer. If you own a truck and it is one couch, drive to Lincoln. If it is a garage, a move-out or a rental turnover, get a number from us and compare it against your Saturday.
